Nyingtri Milin Airport
Nyingtri (also spelled as Nyingchi or Linzhi) airport, the third airport in Tibet, was put into operation on September 1st, 2006. It is about 55km (35 miles ) from bayi town which is the capital of Nyingtri area, and it is 400 kilometers (about 249 miles) from Lhasa, and only 120 kilometers (about 75 miles) from the mysterious Yarlong Tsangpo Canyon. There is bus from the airport to bayi Town, about 15-20CNY per person, 1-1.5hours.

With an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters (about 9,843 feet), lower than Lhasa Gonggar airport ( 3,600 meters) and Chamdo bangda airport (4,334 meters), Nyingtri airport become some people’s first stop in Tibet as it is allowing people to prepare themselves gradually for higher altitudes. but Nyingchi airport is also regarded as one of the most challenging instrument approaches in the world, since the airport is in a winding valley. because of the complicated in geography and unsettled weather, aircrafts only land and set off at forenoon and only 100 days of a year is suitable for navigation.

At present, there are only flights flights from Chengdu to Nyingchi (Nyingtri)

With an altitude of 4,334 meters (about 14,219 feet) above the sea level, it is the highest airport in the world. The bangda airport has one of the longest runways in the world in order to overcome difficulties brought by thin air, Wind with sand, hail, thunder storm and snow storm are also great challenge. because of bad weather conditions, flights are frequently delayed, which is very inconvenient.

At present, there are only flights from Chengdu and Lhasa to Chamdo bangda airport. All the flights are before noon.
